Homeless & Community Service

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to ear, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”(Mat. 25, 36-37)
In modern society, many people regardless of developed and underdeveloped countries, are living on the streets due to intense competition, shocking accidents, experiences of childhood abuse, or other reasons.
The homeless are people who groan from inner pain and spiritual wounds, and who suffer from external nakedness.
As Jesus said, the homeless are also representatives of Christ waiting to meet us on the street in desperate need of warm kindness and love, rather than being criticized. NJ Kkottongnae provides meals and helping hand for the homeless in Orange Town and daily workers who are wandering on the streets every week.
Nearly 100 homeless people are wandering around NJ’s largest Penn Station (train station). NJ Kkottongnae Sisters, secular members and volunteers provide hot meals, drinks, snacks, clothes, shoes and other recyclable items.
There is a continuous need for donations and recyclable items for food preparation and stocking for the homeless and poor neighbors living on the streets.

Orange Town, NJ

  • NJ Kkottongnae provides meals and helping hand for the homeless in Orange Town and daily workers who are wandering on the streets every week.
  • As the coronavirus pandemic began in 2020, local day-laborers, homeless people, and undocumented immigrants could not find jobs. They spent more time wandering the streets without personal protective equipment. As a result, they were easily exposed to infectious disease. To help them we started to provide meals and personal protective equipment (meals, water, masks, sanitizers, coffee, bananas, snacks, etc.) to them.
  • Every Friday morning, volunteers distribute items to about 40 people around Orange city area.

Newark Penn Station, NJ

Nearly 100 homeless people are wandering around NJ’s largest Penn Station (train station and bus terminals). NJ Kkottongnae Sisters, secular members and volunteers provide hot meals, drinks, snacks, clothes, shoes and other recyclable items.
  • As COVID 19 spread, the safety of the homeless population was threatened, the number of those infected rapidly increased, and the life of the poor in the neighborhood became difficult. We decided to expand the service area to provide meals and daily necessities (water, masks, hand sanitizer, clothing, shoes, underwear, bags, etc.).
  • On the second Saturday morning of each month, volunteers hand out supplies to about 100 people near Newark Penn Station.
  • There is a continuous need for donations and recyclable items for food preparation and stocking for the homeless and poor neighbors living on the streets.
