The Story of Kkottongnae in India

  • Kkottongnae in India is located in the southernmost state of Kerala in India.
  • The Kkottongnae Nursing Home (St. Joseph’s Elderly Care Home) is situated in a rural area. It is characterized by coconut trees, jackfruit trees, and banana trees, but due to the climate of a dry and wet season, vegetable cultivation is not very diverse.
  • The dry season lasts for six months with very little rainfall, and particularly from March to May, there is hardly any rain, and the heat is intense. Adding to the difficulties, water is also scarce. With over 40 family members in Kkottongnae India, the shortage of water is a constant source of concern. Everyone eagerly anticipates the rain, constantly gazing at the sky.
  • During the wet season, rainfall occurs day and night, and when it pours heavily, low-lying areas get flooded, and people need to evacuate to higher ground, like schools or other places. During this time, the air is humid, and clothes don’t dry easily, leading to a lot of mold growth. The elderly residents at this nursing home often suffer during the wet season, experiencing ailments like asthma, colds, and skin problems.

India is a Hindu nation, making it very challenging for our religious leaders to obtain visas. Furthermore, receiving donations from abroad is a complex process, and it’s not easy to freely accept money; there are restrictions and investigations.

We can only imagine how much our fellow Korean diaspora members living in the United States have struggled. From settling in a foreign land that may seem unfamiliar and strange…

Yet, amidst it all, you help one another, come together as one, and practice that great love by reaching out to your less fortunate neighbors. We extend our gratitude and admiration to our fellow brothers and sisters who demonstrate this immense love.

We pray that God’s abundant blessings may always be with you.
